PSP 3000 and other Playstaion news!

OK, just some Sony PlayStation news.

They made an official announcement that they're releasing the "PSP 3000" Sony officially unveiled the PSP 3000 Wednesday at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany. It is going to come out October 14th, 2008 in North America.

We wrote something about this earlier . And most of everything in that article is correct.

Here are the changes according to the press conference:

- An anti-reflective screen, "which enables users to see the screen more clearly in well-lit places, even when used outdoors."

- Also according to Engadget Japan (as translated by PSPfanboy) Sony has apparently also doubled the response time, improved the contrast ratio, and bumped up the color gamut. That could be a selling point.

- A built-in microphone, which will allow users to use voice features in certain games and use the PSP's built-in Skype functionality.

- The addition of 480i output for game play when the PSP is connected to a TV screen via a composite or S-Video cable.

As before it will come in all three colors, Piano Black, Sliver, and White. There will also be "packs" like before.

Ratchet & Clank PSP Entertainment Pack will now include the following:
  • Mystic Silver PSP-3000
  • Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
  • National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD
  • echochrome PSN voucher
  • 1GB Memory Stick PRO duo
The PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack. The will launch in November for $199.99 as well. It includes:
  • Piano Black PSP-3000
  • 4GB Memory Stick PRO duo
  • Everyday Shooter PSN voucher
The Piano Black PSP-3000 will be sold separately later this year as a PSP Core Pack, which includes only an AC adapter and battery pack for $169.99.

Now for pictures:

Also

Sony has announced a 160GB PS3 that will hit stores in November for $500. The limited-edition system will also include the rumble DualShock 3 controller and two games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and (via a voucher for the PlayStation Store) Pain.

However based off the Spec Sheet this would just be the core PS3 with a bigger HDD. That means no built-in flash card reader, and no backward compatibility with PS2 games.

I think you would be better off buy the cheap, or soon to be cheaper after the price drop which will go into effect this September, 80GB and getting a new 2.5in Hard Drive. But that us we love breaking warranties and taking tech apart.

Also again

Sony announce a wireless keypad for the PS3 that will make web browsing and typing a little easier. The keypad snaps onto your wireless controller and not only acts as a keyboard for typing but also comes with a feature that turns the main key area into a track pad for users to use the keypad as a mouse. There’s also two short cut buttons on the keypad that will enable users to jump directly to the XMB’s “Friends” icon and the “Message Box” during game play. The Wireless Keypad is set to launch in late November.
